History and functions of the department

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman created the present Department of Education Engineering in 1972 by forming an "Engineering Unit" with the aim of rebuilding and repairing educational institutions in post-independence Bangladesh. After independence, Bangabandhu started working to free every person from the curse of illiteracy to build a golden Bengal. To achieve this goal, the development activities of educational institutions get the highest priority in the social, economic development and annual development programs of Bangladesh. The Department of Education Engineering is playing an important role in the development of physical infrastructure in educational institutions, construction of new buildings, expansion and maintenance of existing buildings, repair and renovation and provision of furniture. There are innumerable schools, colleges, madrasas, technical and other educational institutions scattered all over the country. Dedicated engineers and staff of this department are working relentlessly to create better infrastructure of educational institutions. Under Rupakalpa 2021, as part of building a digital Bangladesh, the Department of Education Engineering is constructing buildings with multimedia classrooms, ICT labs, internet connection and ICT facilities to spread up-to-date and quality education in the country's educational institutions.
